Industrial collaborations
The project's industrial partnership brought a vendor-level perspective to the Hypercell concept, aligning the research with the requirements of future 5G-Advanced and 6G deployments.
Energy-efficient mobile networks, AI modelling and digital twins
SO1 · SO3 · SO4Huawei has served as the industrial collaborator for the project, driven by its strategic, long-standing interest in enhancing the energy efficiency of mobile networks. The collaboration was framed around Scientific Objectives 1, 3 and 4 — the Hypercell concept and coordinated cell-shutdown mechanisms, AI-based network modelling, and the development of advanced optimisation tools. The partnership centred on scientific development, validation from an industrial perspective, and the evolution of the Hypercell concept, which represents the core scientific outcome of the project.
Throughout the project's execution, Huawei researchers actively participated in developing this research line, helping to steer the resulting solutions towards real-world deployment scenarios.

HAPS as a Hypercell: Enabling Coverage and Capacity Carrier Shutdown in Cellular Networks
Formalises the Hypercell architecture and demonstrates its capacity to enable the coordinated shutdown of coverage and capacity layers while maintaining service continuity. Submitted to IEEE Globecom 2026.
Physics-Aware Conditional SetGAN for Spatially Consistent Multi-User TR 38.901 Channel Generation
Radio channel modelling using generative AI, developed with the participation of Huawei researcher Nicola Piovesan and submitted to IEEE Globecom 2026 — reinforcing Huawei's interest in the digital twin and network optimisation tools developed within the project.
Ongoing Beyond the scientific output, Huawei maintains a strong interest in the technology transfer and continued evolution of the results, especially the Hypercell concept and the AI technologies developed in the project. The collaboration currently continues through a new joint industrial research project focused on digital twins and advanced network optimisation techniques.
